The institute started with a few teachers, ten students and a basic understanding of science. Slowly but surely the training and education went through the roof. Today Acs Green Chemistry Institute has twenty-five staff and approximately one hundred and fifty students.The chief strategy behind the whole Acs Green Chemistry Institute is to teach students the simple science of renewable resources and how they work. The goal is to make a difference in the world. The institute also promotes alternative energy sources such as solar power, wind energy, water power and biomass energy. Through Acs Green Chemistry Institute, students learn to distinguish between energy from a solar energy source and energy from the sun, wind, water and biomass.Most of the students at the Acs Green Chemistry Institute attend classes in addition to going on ex cursions, which are part of the curriculum. These excursions include visiting factories that use renewable resources and schools that use renewable sources of energy. The student conduct market research on these factories to determine the efficiency of the products.At the heart of the Green Chemistry Institute is the concept of re-thinking our place in the world. It is meant to inspire students to think outside the box in order to find solutions to some of our environmental problems.What I like about the Green Chemistry Institute is the fact that its purpose is not to just educate students but it also aims to inspire them to become environmental heroes. Students are made to realize that if everyone makes their own contribution to the world then the problems will not be as serious as we think.The Acs Green Chemistry Institute holds a seminar for graduate students every second Wednesday of the month. Iknow this may seem strange, but this makes it much easier for the graduate students to interact with other students and faculty.
